SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARDS

2nd Grade Special Pick

Rex Denton Jr. started his artist journey in the Second grade after taking two after school art lessons.  The Rex Denton Jr. Special Pick recognizes a talented 2nd grader that shows great promise and initiative but missed out on a monetary award placement.

Chairperson Award

The Chairperson Award recipient is picked by the Chairman of the Rex Denton Jr. Artistic Awards Program Committee.  The Chairperson is not involved in the final judging process but reserves the right to pick one outstanding student that missed out on a monetary award placement.

Honorable Mentions

Note:  Ties will be reevaluated and may result in honorable mention awards.  Art Kits will be rewarded to the 2nd Grade Special Pick, the Chairperson Award Recipent and all Runner-ups/Honorable Mentions. Every student will receive a Certificate of Achievement for their participation

An Artistic Partnership

The Fordsville Historical Society is pleased to announce our partnership with Fordsville Elementary School  to establish the Rex Denton Jr. Artistic Achievement Awards Program. 

Remembering a Friend and Artist

Fordsville lost a gifted artist and beloved citizen in 2014.  Rex Denton Jr. passed away on October 21, 2014 at the age of 95.  His artistic contribution to our community is immeasurable.

Our Mission

The Mission and objective of this program is twofold:  (1) To celebrate the memory and art of the late Rex Denton Jr. by encouraging the artistic development of the students of Fordsville Elementary.  (2) To recognize the outstanding artistic achievements of Fordsville students with grade specific awards for their participation in the Annual Rex Denton Pencil Portrait Awards Program.

Our History

The Fordsville Historical Society is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) Corporation established in 1991 to enrich the lives of residents and visitors of Fordsville and Ohio County Kentucky through the preservation of railroad and local history with exhibitions and programs that educate, strengthen and serve our community.

Serving the Community

We believe the Rex Denton Jr. Artistic Achievement Program will serve our students and our community by enriching lives through the advancement of art appreciation within our local school system.
